The original Lorain City Hall was originally located in the Wagner Building downtown. The Wagner Building was destroyed in the tornado that devastated downtown Lorain on June 28, 1924. City Hall was relocated to the former Stang home in the 200 block of West Erie Avenue. The photograph was taken during the years Lorain City Hall was located here.

After the new Lorain City Hall was built in 1974 to the immediate east of this site, the old building was demolished.

The photographer is unknown. Written on the back of the photograph are the words "Building in NW corner - Broadway & W Erie." On the line below this sentence is the name "Hank B". Hank B may be a nickname for the photographer.
