This is a postcard photograph of downtown Lorain, Ohio from the mid-1960s. The photograph is of Broadway Avenue and the Baltimore and Ohio Ore and Coal Loading Docks looking north from Fifth Street. The photographer may have taken this photo from the top floors of another building to the south of the view depicted in the photograph.
The scene in the photograph is of a busy downtown street, with people crowding the sidewalks on both sides of Broadway and numerous card traveling the street. Lake Erie is visible to the north. Many businesses, prominent among them Fisher Food, Sobel Jewelers, Sears, can be seen, as well as the Moose Lodge.
The date of the photograph on the postcard is given as May 1962, per a "Rev 5-62" printed on the lower left back corner of the postcard. The caption of the postcard is printed on the upper left of the back of the postcard: "Lorain, Ohio. Looking north, down Broadway with the Baltimore & Ohio Ore Dock and Coal Loading Dock in the background."
The postcard is addressed to Albert C. Doane, 1149 6th St., Lorain, Ohio 44052. Albert Doane was a local historian and businessman who donated the Doane Collection to the Lorain Public Library System.
The publisher of the postcard is listed as Richard Koontz, Vermilion, Ohio.
