The Day The Library Stacks Collapsed

1971-09-08 / Main Library

On September 8, 1971, 18 double-faced 15-foot bookstacks holding between 50,000 and 80,000 magazines and books, suddenly collapsed. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The library closed for one day to restore the shelves and reshelve the books and magazines.
